Handyman Special Renovating that old house on Market Street

May 25th - Happy Birthday Cybele!

Well honey, here's the closet you wanted...
There was some sort of soft deadline about moving upstairs.
Something to do with someone's birthday. I can't quite remember whether it was
this year or next. Let me check my PalmPilot. Hmmm the batteries are dead...
...this gives you some idea of the framing work for the new upstairs layout. Two
of the old partition walls survived but if I was to do it over, I would have removed
those too. It's just easier dealing with new framing instead of trying to connect the
new to the old. Back when I decided to keep those old walls, I was seriously tired of
throwing out pieces of the sweet old house. |
Ramon's loft space above his bedroom is just big enough
to be a sleeping space or for marathon Monopoly games.
The amount of lumber and work that went into framing the upstairs was an eye opener.
I've certainly made my share of mistakes. Many times it's two steps forward, one step back.
I often mention to people that I feel like I'm doing two renovations simultaneously.

Here you can see that the plumber thoughtlessly left a mess that the carpenter
had to keep stepping over.
This is the upstairs landing looking toward the Master Bedroom.

I kept putting off plumbing the upstairs bath. It seemed an enormous task. But once I got
started, took my time, and remained patient, it went well. There's still a little more to do but
we're ready to go shopping for a second toilet. YAHOOO! |
