Handyman Special Renovating that old house on Market Street

June 12
Mommy gets busy with the ShopVac...
and casting the evil eye. You can almost read her mind: "This is
all your fault you, you, Handyman you."
This picture is actually from a while back. The project and daily life
has gotten in the way of web updates. Has it been over a month!? However
long it's been, it's been a crawl through the fire. There have definitely
been some of those "What the !@#$ was I thinking" moments but
then I remembered. I fell in love with this house and love knows no nothing
no how.

...and when the heart moves, so do we.
The move was pain in stages. A few weeks ago we moved all our non-essentials
such as books, records, bookcases, guitars, winter clothes, etc. into
storage in the barn. This was of course after Cybele had efficiently packed
and labelled everything. At times I wondered whether the tired 18th century
barn could take everything we were giving it.
|
But even the essentials are a lot
and we, unfortunately, slacked-off on the organizing and packing before
phase 2 of the move.
The move into the house was innumerable trips filling up the pickup,
driving it the 100 feet between the rental and the Chez, and then unloading
it again. It all couldn't have been done without the help of our neighbor
Tyler Murdoch who put his strong back to work for us.

Nevertheless we're finally in!
Here is the unfinished kitchen with new gas range (yay!) and hardware
just installed on the Ikea (put-them-together-yourself) cabinets. I've
yet to put the doors on the wall cabs and as you can see the painting
got interrupted by father time. But the space feels good and I'm happy
with my kitchen design so far. It will need some tweaking to be sure,
but it's roomy and efficient.

The Livingroom with some life added
despite the lack of a finished ceiling.
The ceiling can't be finished until the upstairs bath is plumbed. Time
again won the race to get this done before the move.

|
The defacto bedrooms are tight
quarters but will eventually turn into office/workspace/guestrooms when
the upstairs is complete.
For now, we're cozy, comfortable, and sleeping well in the cool nights
of a New Hampshire summer.
